Our Story

Bollywood Society was founded in 2019 at La Trobe University during a landmark year when global icon Shah Rukh Khan visited Melbourne as part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and was honored by the university with an honorary doctorate.

Inspired by the scale, energy, and cultural pride surrounding that moment, founder Priyanshu Tomar established Bollywood Society to bring that same spirit of Bollywood, culture, and community into campus life in Australia.

Since then, Bollywood Society has grown into one of La Trobe’s most active cultural clubs, delivering unforgettable experiences ranging from cultural festivals, high-energy parties, and signature formal events that bring students together from all backgrounds.

Over the years, we have hosted countless memorable experiences that have genuinely defined university life for many students. Entire friend groups have been formed here, lifelong friendships have been built, and for many, Bollywood Society has become more than just a club — it has become a home. It is a growing family that continues to expand with every event, bringing people together through culture, music, and connection.
